What are Motorcycle Pants?

While we didn't set out to create the ultimate golf or travel trouser, the GTO Pant makes a pretty good case for both. But here's the thing. We did set out to create a great, lightweight "motorcycle" pant. And we didn't do it.

Now don't get us wrong, the GTO Pant's design both in fit and function is certainly inspired by motorcycling or riding gear. The slim silhouette which conforms to the body without being constricting. The deep pockets with zippers so things don't fall out. The diamond gusset for comfort and mobility. The durable water repellent coating for light rain and splashes. But it's not a "motorcycle pant"

So what are "Motorcycle" Pants then?

What's being marketed today as "Motorcycle pants" today generally includes a couple of key features:

Armor inserts - Hidden or not hidden pockets where you can strategically place armor at impact points like the knees, hips or tailbone.

Abrasion resistance - As of this writing, the United States does not have any officially recognized certification standard. For brands that do make claims about protection, most have unofficially accepted the European Union's CE (Conformité Européene) and EN (European Norm) standards - specifically EN-17092 for leisure use.

The GTO Pants have neither. Maybe we'll try one in the future if we can find the right fabric that won't cost $900 (there are some cool ideas out there). So if you are looking for expensive, motorcycle pants with all the ratings to put your mind at ease, keep looking.

But if you want breathable, stretchy, water repellent pants with lots of pockets that are comfier and stronger than regular jeans....well...
