On Function: Pockets

The Pocket. The word actually comes the old french word "pouque" which means pouch. Because, of course that's how men had to carry things around before someone (we're not sure who) gifted humanity with this oh so simple yet wondrous innovation. And yes, pockets first appeared on men's clothes. Some might argue that the pocket still hasn't made it's way fully to women's clothes. The functionality of the pocket has shifted subtly with the times as well - from coin, ticket and watch pockets to RFID blocking and smartphone pockets of today.

The Douentza GTO has 6 pockets including 2 inner phone pockets and 3 YKK zippered pockets. We think that's just enough to be useful without going overboard.

Extra Deep Front Pockets (4)

We went with a traditional chino's style side-seam slant or slash pocket. We made these extra deep so you can actually keep a wallet in there if that's where you keep it. We also put two hidden inner phone pockets (one zippered) inside each front pocket to comfortably hold a large smartphone upright. We don't want even the inside of your pockets to feel cluttered.

Zippered Rear Pockets (2)

We included 2 zippered rear welt pockets for those that actually keep things in their rear pockets. We ALMOST considered removing them altogether but ultimately decided to keep them because

  1. A pant without rear pockets just doesn't look right
  2. Some of you swear by the rear pockets (we're not sure why); if we're keeping them, you get YKK zippers to make them usable.

For future iterations, would love to come up with a unique alternative or improvement to the rear pocket design that would improve the functionality.
